In an emergency

If you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, do not use this website.

  • Emergency services: 000
  • Lifeline: 13 11 14 (24 hours)
  • 13YARN: 13 92 76 (24-hour support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people)

If you are in crisis, or if you are thinking about harming yourself, please contact one of the services above or go to your nearest emergency department. Deb Smith Naturopathy is not a crisis service and cannot provide emergency or after-hours support.

1. Complementary, not a replacement

Naturopathy, clinical hypnotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy as offered by Deb Smith Naturopathy are complementary therapies. They are intended to work alongside, not in place of, care from your GP, psychiatrist, psychologist, or other registered health practitioners.

We strongly encourage all clients to maintain a relationship with a GP.

We will never advise you to stop, reduce or change any prescribed medication. Decisions about prescribed medication rest with the doctor who prescribed it. If you wish to change your medication, please discuss it with them.

2. Not a medical diagnosis

Deb Smith is not a medical practitioner and does not diagnose medical conditions.

Naturopathic assessment is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or investigation. If your presentation suggests a condition requiring medical assessment, we will tell you and recommend you see your GP or an appropriate specialist. In some cases we may decline to proceed until you have done so.

3. Mental health

Deb Smith holds qualifications in clinical hypnotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy, and works with people experiencing chronic stress and anxiety.

Please be aware:

  • These are not AHPRA-registered professions. Deb is not a registered psychologist or psychiatrist.
  • We do not provide crisis intervention, emergency mental health care, or after-hours support
  • We do not diagnose mental health conditions
  • Where your needs would be better met by a registered psychologist, psychiatrist or specialist mental health service, we will say so and support you to access appropriate care
  • Care may be provided alongside your existing mental health treatment, with your consent to communicate with your other practitioners

4. Remedies and supplements

Any remedies, herbal medicines, homeopathic preparations or nutritional supplements recommended are:

  • Prescribed for you individually, based on your presentation and history
  • Checked for interactions with your current medications using MIMS and N-Pod
  • Sourced through a practitioner-only dispensary and trusted practitioner brands

Your responsibility. Interaction checking is only as accurate as the information you provide. You must tell us about all medications, supplements, herbs and over-the-counter products you are taking, and let us know promptly if anything changes.

Adverse reactions. Natural does not mean risk-free. Herbal and nutritional products can cause side effects and can interact with medications. Stop taking any remedy and contact us, or your doctor, or 000 in an emergency, if you experience an adverse reaction.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tell us if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding, as this affects what can be safely prescribed.

Adults only. We provide services to adults aged 18 and over. We do not treat children or young people under 18.

5. Testing

Functional and pathology testing is optional. Costs are additional to your consultation fee and will always be discussed with you before anything is arranged.

Test results are used to inform naturopathic assessment. They are not a diagnostic service. Where a result suggests something requiring medical attention, we will recommend you take it to your GP.

6. Results vary

Health outcomes differ between individuals, depending on your circumstances, health history, the nature of your concerns, and how consistently a plan is followed.

We do not guarantee, promise or predict any particular outcome. Testimonials on this website describe individual experiences and are not an indication of what you will experience.

7. Website content is general information

Information published on this website, including any articles, resources or social media content, is general in nature. It is not personal advice, does not take your circumstances into account, and should not be relied on as a reason to start, stop or change any treatment.

Always consult a qualified practitioner before acting on health information you read online, including ours.

8. Telehealth limitations

Telehealth consultations do not include physical examination. Some assessments cannot be performed remotely, which may limit what can be determined in a consultation.

Telehealth consultations are conducted via Google Meet and are recorded. Your consent is obtained before your first telehealth appointment and you may decline. Recordings form part of your health record and are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Telehealth is not suitable in an emergency. If your circumstances require urgent attention, contact 000 or attend your nearest emergency department.

9. Your responsibilities as a client

To allow us to work with you safely, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete health information, including all medications and supplements
  • Tell us promptly about changes to your health, medications or circumstances
  • Maintain your relationship with your GP
  • Tell us about other treatments or practitioners you are engaged with
  • Report any adverse reaction promptly
  • Seek medical or emergency care where your situation calls for it
